A sensational evening out obviously helped by the great comeback, but Portsmouth is such a cracking venue that youd be hard-pressed not to enjoy an away day here. This meant we ended up getting in to the ground roughly eight minutes in to the match, so no interaction with home fans outside, but I remember from previous visits that they are friendly enough. The Away End (Milton End) generates a great atmosphere althoughthere are two supporting pillars obscure the view slightly. However, it looks like they are well looked after, particularly the Main Stand. Despite playing some lovely stuff we found ourselves 2-1 down at half time and it got worse after the break, losing another goal and going down to 10 men. There was a good atmosphere but I was disappointed that there were no local ales to sample, something I like to do at away grounds. In terms of facilities the ground is light years away from Premiership standard, but the atmosphere is electric with the legendary Play Up Pompey echoing around the ground.

Despite this history many commentators believe the club should relocate to more modern facilities and after surviving their inaugural season in the Premier League in 2003/2004 there appeared to be the ideal platform for this to happen. I was planning on taking a family holiday to Bournemouth, so I was delighted when Barnet drew Portsmouth in the Carling Cup. Pompey fans at the pubs surrounding the ground seemed alright and I didn't see any bother. The stadium is situated a 12 minute walk and a very short 4 minute drive from Fratton station.
